I have been with the bike since 1993 and I would know that something is wrong by just listening to the sound of the engine. Call it instinct...My bike was the last imported batch before they decided to assemble it in Thailand and Malaysia, since then the quality of the model is not so good anymore. Don't believe me, you can ask any mechanic.
I woke up this morning and it was drizzling. Started my bike, move about 100 meter then the engine died. From my diagnostic the day before, if you are moving at high speed there is no problem, but if you slow down like at the traffic light, the engine will stall and stop, which is very dangerous considering the driving style in Penang and the number of traffic lights that I need to pass to reach my office.,
Rushed the bike to my mechanic, since I was rushing, he did a quick job and I rushed to my office. Midway, it happened again...not good, but since I was already late, I tough it out and managed to reach office in one piece..
At the office, I answered some questions from the students and at lunch time, rushed back to the mechanic the second time..This time he did a diagnostic test on the circuitry, the prime suspect is the coil which generates power for the bike, replaced that but it was not so smooth yet, so extreme measure have to take apart the engine..since i had to go back to the office, he lend me his bike...
Which is a classic Suzuki 80 bike....(speechless). The top speed for that bike is only 80km/h. I have no problem riding any bike, but this bike is classic, so have to respect it, since I don't know its abilities and limitations, dare not ride too fast. And you have to pull the choke to start it (a choke release oil to the engine, and it makes a good joke, if you turn off the choke, a bike will move like 50 meters and then the engine will stop. You restart the engine, move another 50 meters and it will happen again ^^). So all good bikers should know where your bike's choke is ha ha.
Went back to my office and had my class, but I was thinking of my bike all the time Was contemplating whether I should get another bike or a car. You all know its coming, but you do not know when only..
Came back in the evening and my bike was repaired, they cleaned the engine, replaced the gasket and some other stuffs. Sounds like new again, even though it cost me 220 for the repair.
Why am I being nostalgic with my bike, I have a lot of memories with it, which I will share with you all one of these days..
