Computers systems are not just heartless systems

When I teach system analyst and design, I always emphasize that when building a computer system, you have to put a "heart" in it. This mess above is one of the best example what happens when you design a system without considering the human factors.

Well, to quote a technical error is an easy thing, but what about the emotional factor. For those that thought that they were successful only to be told later it was a technical error. In US, I bet there will be multiple million dollars lawsuits already due to "emotional stress".

And how can there be a technical error of this magnitude? When I was in my previous job, I prepared data for the Penang K-ICT meeting for the Chief Minister. We checked the data like 7 times before we give to him as a mistake cannot be easily solved by saying I am sorry.

I hope all those high tech computer experts realized this...

Vote for my Fate

Should I look for a job as

1. A software designer

2. A lecturer at another college

3. A writer

Please give me feedback so I can act... ha ha

Burn Notice

Today is a bad day, I woke up and it was raining heavily. Then I turn on the tap and there was no water. It seems the generator at the apartment was not working and people were busy repairing it when I got down. Lucky I always have some spare water in water tanks. And when I was shaving, I cut my self >.<. When this all happened, I knew it was going to be a great day not.

Actually a two weeks ago, one college called me for the second interview. But the first time I went for their interview WAS 7 months ago. And since that, they have advertising the job for like 3 times only want to call me. I turn them down nicely.

My honest opinion, I don't want to do teaching job anymore. Nowadays, teaching means you have to write so many reports to make sure that you look good rather that just focusing on education, it has become a clerical job. So maybe its time to move on.

Things to ponder...

Is Malaysia that safe. Duhh...
People say don't fight if you get robbed, but did the 5 years old fight. Hmmm. I am not a violent man but I do believe that you should be able to defend yourself. There are too many bad guys in this world..and these people deserve the death sentence for what they did.

One of my friend would say "Return to Religion". I have no problem with this statement, but do tell me in what era has "Religion" manage to quell bad people. I studied history before and I have never found that era. I might be wrong. Do mail to me if you can tell me what era is that? And the remember the Inquisition and the Salem Witch trial.

I still believe in the Latin motto - "Sie vis parcern, para bellum" If you want peace, prepare for war.

Which is where the Luger Parabellum gun got its name.

Rest In Peace

A very good friend of mine passed on today. Here is his obituary:

Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense, who has been with us for many years. No one knows for sure how old he was, since his birth records were long ago lost in bureaucratic red tape. He will be remembered as having cultivated such valuable lessons as:

Knowing when to come in out of the rain; why the early bird gets the worm; Life isn't always fair; and maybe it was my fault.

Common Sense lived by simple, sound financial policies (don't spend more than you can earn) and reliable strategies (adults, not children, are in charge).

His health began to deteriorate rapidly when well-intentioned but overbearing regulations were set in place. Reports of a 6-year-old boy charged with sexual harassment for kissing a classmate; teens suspended from school for using mouthwash after lunch; and a teacher fired for reprimanding an unruly student, only worsened his condition.

Common Sense lost ground when parents attacked teachers for doing the job that they themselves had failed to do in disciplining their unruly children.

It declined even further when schools were required to get parental consent to administer sun lotion or an Aspirin to a student; but could not inform parents when a student became pregnant and wanted to have an abortion.

Common Sense lost the will to live as the churches became businesses; and criminals received better treatment than their victims. Common Sense took a beating when you couldn't defend yourself from a burglar in your own home and the burglar could sue you for assault.

Common Sense finally gave up the will to live, after a woman failed to realize that a steaming cup of coffee was hot. She spilled a little in her lap, and was promptly awarded a huge settlement.

Common Sense was preceded in death by his parents, Truth and Trust; his wife, Discretion; his daughter, Responsibility; and his son, Reason. He is survived by his 4 stepbrothers; I Know My Rights, I Want It Now, Someone Else Is To Blame, and I'm A Victim.

Not many attended his funeral because so few realized he was gone. If you still remember him, pass this on. If not, join the majority and do nothing.

Joke of the day...wahahahahahaha

Ummm, no disrespect, but I think Gandhi and Mandela never hid behind the police.

The Zombie agenda

My brain was on overdrive again last night. I have 5 sets of exam questions to finish by this weekend, 3 of them are programming, I have people asking my help for assignments and I was extremely tired last night and the stupid line was acting up again. So my brain come up with another story in my dream for my entertainment. ha ha

I was in some sort of college facility, which look suspiciously like my old school. It was like a refuge for people from zombies, but the zombies are closing in so its time to escape the refuge. I had with me one backpack with 3 bottles of drinking water, first aid kit, some canned food. On my belt are my 2 big knives and 2 folders with carrying pouch. How come my dream so detailed when it comes to my weapons. And I was wearing my jeans, hooded sweater and timberland boots..

So we divided into 3 teams to escape, this time the place has become like a suspiciously hospital environment. The first team decided to crash through the front door with a vehicle and escape, the second team escaped through the sewer. My team, no, instead of escaping, the leader wanted to find the "zombie cafe" and went to the basement. Of course, they found it was killed by zombies, except me who escaped via a fire escape. ha ha.

Then it was raining and i was walking on the road with my hooded jacket. I think the soundtrack was "The lonely man", the music of the classic Incredible Hulk show. Dispatched a few zombies that came my way, and met another survivor. We came to a store with some supplies. The other person was taking too much time collecting supplies until the zombies come and attack again.

Then I woke up and the clock was showing 3.00 am. Tried to sleep again and continue my dream but cannot >.<

Maybe today will get weirder dream..ha ha

Weapon from a travelling swordsman ha ha...

Last night I was at the pasar malam when I saw people selling knives. These people travel a lot and you are considered lucky if you come across them..Its like there will be there again after a few years down the road.

I have a lot of knives, but one complain is I lack traditional knives. So I guess its time to get one. This one is hand made using saw blade as the blade material. hmmm

Not bad right? ha ha

How big is it? Here is a comparison..

Compared to my black ops knife

Top reason why you should not have any "action" in a car

Points to Ponder

Yesterday was the first day of the new semester, so my brain was on overdrive. It rained the whole day yesterday and in the evening, I went to Citibank to pay my bills, under the threat of heavy rain.

So after dinner last night I was tired and slept from 8.30 to 11.30pm. Then I woke up and did a bit of chatting and then sleep again.

Was laying on my bed when I saw a full moon, finally after around 5 days of rain.

As my brain was on overdrive, it came up with a dream for me. I dream I was watching a documentary titled "How to be a good painter"

In my dreams, there are a few classification of a painter...

1. Some people are generally good and talented at it

2. Some people become good by practicing and practicing and practicing

3. Some people become good by copying and manipulation other people's work

4. And some people just generally suck at painting...

When I woke up, I realized that that does not apply to painting but also programming....

That is also continued by a dream of migrating but that's another story.......
