Mengkudu fruit tree

Last weekend was Chinese New Year, so I went back to my hometown. After sitting at home for one day, I was kind of bored and start looking for stories for my blog. I was doing a bit of walking, accompanied by my handphone and my black ops knife (you can't be sure who you will meet, either a rabid monitor lizard or some wild hog, so its better to be prepared). Then I came across this tree.

This is the mengkudu tree and its fruit. In the old days, no one bothered with this tree, maybe just pick the shoot to be eaten as ulam. But now they have jus mengkudu and kopi mengkudu that is supposedly good for health. True or not, please don't ask me, but I know the juice of this fruit stink like hell.

My theory, as long as its considered an aprodisiac, people are willing to eat anything, like tiger's penis and all those funny stuff (not so funny for the tiger ok)..ha ha.

Hrm, also known as Noni from my place. I remembered hornets making nest inside the fruit and they chased me for plucking it. -Glim

It doesn't stink as much when it's not ripe yet. I think. :-)

I can't make myself eat this... my wife can (she squeezes the fruit for juice, then drinks the juice). Hats off to her...
