The day without my bike
Yesterday as I was passing Penang Road, I fell my bike lose power when I revved it up, so I know I was in trouble..
I have been with the bike since 1993 and I would know that something is wrong by just listening to the sound of the engine. Call it instinct...My bike was the last imported batch before they decided to assemble it in Thailand and Malaysia, since then the quality of the model is not so good anymore. Don't believe me, you can ask any mechanic.
I woke up this morning and it was drizzling. Started my bike, move about 100 meter then the engine died. From my diagnostic the day before, if you are moving at high speed there is no problem, but if you slow down like at the traffic light, the engine will stall and stop, which is very dangerous considering the driving style in Penang and the number of traffic lights that I need to pass to reach my office.,
Rushed the bike to my mechanic, since I was rushing, he did a quick job and I rushed to my office. Midway, it happened again...not good, but since I was already late, I tough it out and managed to reach office in one piece..
At the office, I answered some questions from the students and at lunch time, rushed back to the mechanic the second time..This time he did a diagnostic test on the circuitry, the prime suspect is the coil which generates power for the bike, replaced that but it was not so smooth yet, so extreme measure have to take apart the engine..since i had to go back to the office, he lend me his bike...
Which is a classic Suzuki 80 bike....(speechless). The top speed for that bike is only 80km/h. I have no problem riding any bike, but this bike is classic, so have to respect it, since I don't know its abilities and limitations, dare not ride too fast. And you have to pull the choke to start it (a choke release oil to the engine, and it makes a good joke, if you turn off the choke, a bike will move like 50 meters and then the engine will stop. You restart the engine, move another 50 meters and it will happen again ^^). So all good bikers should know where your bike's choke is ha ha.
Went back to my office and had my class, but I was thinking of my bike all the time Was contemplating whether I should get another bike or a car. You all know its coming, but you do not know when only..
Came back in the evening and my bike was repaired, they cleaned the engine, replaced the gasket and some other stuffs. Sounds like new again, even though it cost me 220 for the repair.
Why am I being nostalgic with my bike, I have a lot of memories with it, which I will share with you all one of these days..

Prelude to a showdown
At Queensbay on Sunday..
I was passing by and saw Lillian Too giving a talk on Feng Shui to prospective house owners. Now that's a new style of promoting your houses.
Actually I am always fascinated by this Lllian Too, a lot of purist Feng Shui master really don't like her because she does not really know that much, but she was writing all these books on Feng Shui. The interesting thing is she makes more money then these purist Fend Shui master, so who is really the expert in making money. And don't give me the "I am not in it for the money, I just wanna help people" talk..ha ha.
Which brings me to the conclusion, you don't have the best at what you do, but its how you promote yourself that matters in this day and age.
Don't believe me? Two good examples are Kim Gary and Old Town White Coffee. Those that have eaten at Kim Gary will say the food is not that good, then why is it on Saturdays and Sundays there will be long queue to go in the shop? One of my friends swore he will not go in a shop where he has to queue, but more are willing to do so. So it does not matter who don't like you or your ideas, but who likes it is the one that's gonna support it. That's why they are doing so well..

Dr Stripes
MJ Fashion Show
Today, Saturday, 25-7-2009, there was an MJ Fashion show at Gurney. The MJ here refers to MetroJaya, not Micheal Jackson OK.
It was supposed to start at 12.30, so I positioned myself to get the best angle for the pictures. That was about 12.oo, so I waited half an hour. So around 12.30, there was an announcement that it will start in ANOTHER half an hour. Then around one, it is announced that it will start in another 10 minutes. That's Malaysian time for you. Zzzzz.
Finally it started around 1.10 pm, and I was on the first floor waiting. Took one picture and it was not so clear.
So I headed down since there was an opening there...
After that I went to the Sony shop to see their DSLR, it was around 2K...and the lens was around 800 something..

Judgment Day 22-07-09
Today is the final project presentation for the engineering students. I woke up early in the morning knowing damn well some of them slept super late last night.
Got prepared to go to the office for the presentation. Had my breakfast and went straight to the Multi purpose Hall. Some of the students were already there. The presentation in like the whole day because they have to present to examiners, judges, students and some of the parents that came. I personally saw 1 group present like 5 - 6 times.
As there are 24 of you all, its impossible for me to upload all your pictures. Here are some pictures of the event.

It was working last night, why is it not working now zzzzz (before presentation)
搞自閉
Meanwhile some of them are already presenting
Electronic Top - balancing the spinning top
Automatic Pet Feeder - Water on the left and food on the right
Actually can be espresso machine too I think ha ha
Reflex Tester where you have to push a button based on the led that lights up.
There is a certificate for the best project.
A lot of people came to see the presentation
My ex students who are now studying in UK dropped by for a visit..
Generating power using water flow..
Forget to ask the titles for these 2 projects, sorry =.=
Finally the big piano presentation, it works ok..
I purposely took the picture like this for the emo look ha ha
Dr William Wong was also present..
And so did Dr Micheal Yap
Best Project Award
I am taller than you ok =.=
Don't worry, everyone can see where my hands are.. ha ha
To all the Engineering Students, GOOD JOB everyone..

Which was won by this group. What did they do? They develop a software that can detect smoke in video images using Matlab and its image processing capabilities. Its like a smoke detector but they analyze the video image instead of detecting smoke. I wish the IT student are up to this standard, but most of them will come running to the lecturer even if its just a missing ; after the code. Come, I challenge people to be as capable as these people.
